Podcasting

As a sophomore at the University of Washington and one of the top contributors to the Arts + Culture section at The Daily, Gabe was selected to be one of the paper’s creators for their new Podcasts section. The following year, Groove 206 was born. On Groove 206, Gabe interviewed everyone from college house show heroes to touring artists, and through the podcast, Gabe received media passes to shoot backstage at one of Seattle’s biggest festivals and even took a mini road trip with one of Israel’s hottest rock bands. After creative differences impelled Gabe to remove Groove 206 from the paper’s platform, he became the sole producer and editor of the show and taught himself the ins and outs of audio-editing and podcast publication. A few months into the Covid-19 pandemic, Gabe’s football (soccer) obsessed friends approached him with a new podcast idea. After much discussion and preparation, the group of five released the first episode of The Meat Pies Podcast, a Premier League and international football focused podcast. Guests have included everyone from famed pub owners and friends to MLS club owners, World Cup stars, and Olympic heroes. Through the Meat Pies Podcast, Gabe has continued to expand his production and editing skills including recently implementing the unique “hat-trick” interview format, a Meat Pies original concept where the hosts construct an interview around the three most important football matches the guest has ever watched, attended, coached, or played in. Now over 100 episodes in, the Meat Pies are looking to expand the show and their reach through bigger and better content.
